The release is scheduled in July as stated on Day 1 of Microsoft’s TechEd conference in New Orleans.

MDT: MDT 2010 update 1 under development

The new version will provide new capabilities such as:

Support for System Center Configuration Manager R3’s OEM pre-staged media feature
Support for Microsoft Office 2010
A new “User-Driven Installation” (UDI) deployment method (formerly known as ‘Modena’) for System Center Configuration Manager, enabling end users to initiate an OS deployment through an easy-to-use wizard
Improvements to the Deployment Workbench driver import process, detecting each driver’s true supported platforms
Many bug fixes and other small improvements

R3 for SCCM 2007 is coming and first beta can be expected in January 2010. The new Power Management features are not in my interest, but the updated ‘Prestaged-Media’ feature and ‘Delta Active Directory Discovery’ sounds pretty kool! … R3 can create pre-staged media from the Task Sequence Media wizard. The wizard will create a .wim file which contains the boot media and the operating system .wim file. … Delta Active Directory Discovery -> This improvement will help the SCCM admin to deploy software based on elements in Active Directory (deploying software based on AD groups, OU’s etc.).

News: Building up my VM environment at home

My ESXi Whitebox is up and running! It’s running with 4x cpu’s, 8 GB memory, more than 2 TB storage (local, iSCSI and NFS) and 5x NIC’s. I bought the HP 340T (a quad port NIC) to find out, that it didn’t fit the conventional PCI slot on my DQ45CB board, so I took a saw and made a small modification to the NIC and now it fits. Better yet – it works perfectly running in ESXi 4.0 update 1.

My new VMware ESXi whitebox is alive

I just build my new ESXi whitebox and has begun building up my home VM environment (I change the config since my original config).

I’ve based it on the Intel DQ45CB motherboard supporting 16 GB memory (Yes, I know the INTEL site only says 8 GB, but it says 16 GB on the box), a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 cpu, 8 GB Corsair XMS2 memory (I’ll upgrade to 16 GB when I win the Lottery) and a Samsung SpinPoint F3 1 TB hard drive for local storage (I have 2 TB additional storage in my Synology 407e (iSCSI, NFS and SMB)). The box will boot from a Corsair Flash Voyager Mini memory stick.

This is crazy. Check out this blog on Computerworld. Since moving to a monthly schedule in October 2003, Microsoft has released about 400 security bulletins based on an informal count of releases in its bulletin archives. What?!? Crazy!
